Grammar exercise For ages 3- 8 years
- For a primary aged child (3-6 y)
While reading the story, search for the words that you associate with the images and colour them in. You may use terms such as names, places, animals, things for NOUNS; encourage the child to doodle alongside you, or go find an object from their toys that matches the word.
Go ahead and enact the doing words (VERBS) AND describing words (ADJECTIVES) , use toys or nature elements in pretend play to bring to life the verbs, ask the child to find any object that can be described by the adjective found in the book.
- For a lower elementary aged child (6-8 y)
While reading the story, search for the words that fall into the category of naming words (NOUNS) and use a different page to separate the doodles you will create for
Abstract nouns (like age, time, feelings, emotions)
Highlight the difference between any common and proper nouns you may come across.
For doodling doing words (VERBS) AND describing words (ADJECTIVES), it is suggested that the child illustrates the spelling of the word in action or as described.
Examples of each are provided in the pages inside.
